The name of 'Posy' (Posie, Poesy) comes from a French word, Poésie that means poetry. Posy rings have short inscriptions, and were loved since the medieval period. They became popular in England and France during the 16th century through the 17th century. Posy rings were given as a secret token of friendship, protection (often religious) or love. In this period, the inscriptions were done on the inner surface of the rings, so the words touch the skin.
Here, we are introducing a lovely 17th century sailor's posy ring. It is a rare and unusual piece with a heart shape. A ship with three masts is engraved on the heart, and inside of the ring, the inscription reads 'Love, Live Happy'. On the back of the heart, there are initials 'P.D'. We love this ring of sweet innocence. The ring tests between 20-22kt gold. The ring shows signs of age, yet overall it is in great condition.
